5 Sports Novels for People Who Hate Sports

My father is an athlete, former football coach, and lifelong sports nut. Much to his continuing dismay, I am not athletic, coordinated, or even mildly interested in watching sports.

Nonetheless, I love it when a good sports novel sneaks up on me. Often when I am told that a book is “about” sports, I set it aside. Since I hate sports, my reasoning goes, I won’t like a sports book. But that, like most of my reasoning, is absolute nonsense. I’ve stumbled into several great novels because I didn’t know that they involved sports, and I’m nearly always proven wrong.
