5 Books by Native American Authors
Recently I was at a writer’s conference, and the keynote speaker was Ramona Emerson, author of Shutter. She gave a great talk about creativity, and after the talk I spent the rest of the night thinking about how little Native American literature I have read. It’s time to fix that!
Have you ever learned whose land you are living on? It’s a fascinating lesson. This map makes it easy to find out. Once you’ve learned about the land, the interwebs make it so easy to learn about the tribe. But of course, it’s always best to seek out members of the tribe in your area, and contribute to any art, history, or educational programs they provide. I live on Tongva and Juaneño land, and I intend to keep an eye out for learning and donation activities.
Until then, I’ll be expanding my reading life with some of these books written by Native American authors.
